Adial Pharmaceuticals Rebrands as Azora Therapeutics Ahead of Planned Clinical Trial

Adial Pharmaceuticals has officially rebranded as Azora Therapeutics, with Matt Davidson appointed as president and CEO, as the company gears up to advance its lead drug candidate into clinical development. The rebranding coincides with the expected commencement of trading on the Nasdaq Capital Market under the ticker symbol AZR on October 29, following the approval of stockholder conversion of Series A preferred stock linked to Azora’s acquisition in June.

The newly named Azora Therapeutics is concentrating on the development of AT177, an investigational oral therapy targeting the colon, specifically designed for ulcerative colitis, a condition characterized by inflammation of the colon and rectum. AT177 functions as an aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) agonist, aiming to modulate immune responses and bolster the intestinal barrier.

Azora plans to launch a Phase 1 clinical trial of AT177 in the first half of 2027, marking a significant step in evaluating its potential as a novel treatment for inflammatory bowel disease. Davidson emphasizes that the name change signifies a pivotal transition for the company, rooted in patient experiences and a targeted strategy for restoring intestinal health. With the necessary capital, team, and infrastructure in place, Azora is poised to meet the challenges of clinical development and explore the therapeutic promise of AhR agonism.
