Opentrons Labworks has raised $40 million from a Series E financing round led by healthcare investor Avego, with additional investment from BroadOak Capital Partners. The company plans to use the capital to scale its robotics, software, and data infrastructure tools. This funding will support efforts to design artificial intelligence and robotics systems that work together to design, execute, and learn from scientific experiments. The investment will enable faster protocol development through software and AI, expand capabilities across robots and instruments, and provide deeper integration into the broader lab automation ecosystem.
As drug developers and AI companies move toward automated workflows that generate usable data, there is a significant opportunity for autonomous science to converge around Opentrons’ platform. The company has deployed over 11,000 robots to laboratories in over 80 countries, serving academic groups, diagnostic labs, and global pharmaceutical companies. Earlier this year, Opentrons announced its use of Nvidia’s Isaac and Cosmos AI platforms to generate training data for AI-enabled laboratory robotics.
