Shilpa CDMO is committing $50 million to expand its peptide manufacturing infrastructure in India. The investment will add production capacity and specialized capabilities to support growing demand for GLP-1 drugs and complex peptide-based therapeutics.
The expansion will be implemented in phases over the next several years, adding 10 kiloliters (KL) of solid-phase peptide synthesis (SPPS) reactor capacity to the company’s existing clinical manufacturing lines. A new commercial production line at Shilpa’s Unit-I campus in Raichur, Karnataka, is scheduled to begin operations in December 2026, with commercial supply expected to ramp up throughout 2027.
The new line will feature 500-liter and 1,000-liter reactors, supporting annual output of up to one metric ton. The expanded operation will include six parallel current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) production lines, allowing for independent manufacturing of multiple customer programs.
This investment aims to address demand beyond the current GLP-1 market, particularly as drug developers advance more sophisticated peptide candidates for oncology and rare diseases. Shilpa’s peptide business currently employs more than 100 specialists and aims to provide comprehensive manufacturing support from early development through commercial production.
