Phillips Medisize Expands UK Inhalation Operations with Chippenham Acquisition

Interior of a pharmaceutical manufacturing site

Phillips Medisize is expanding its inhalation drug delivery capabilities in the UK after acquiring the full Chippenham facility, adding operational capacity to its Global Inhalation Center of Excellence (COE). The site will work alongside the company’s Cambridge facility to support increasing demand for complex inhaled drug-device combination products.

The acquisition gives Phillips Medisize greater long-term control over the facility’s laboratories, cleanroom space, and manufacturing operations, positioning it to accommodate a growing pipeline of inhaled small-molecule and biologic therapies. The expansion reflects increasing interest in outsourced inhalation product development, as pharmaceutical companies pursue more sophisticated respiratory treatments.

Charlie Schumacher, Vice President of Inhalation Therapies at Phillips Medisize, noted that securing the complete Chippenham facility will provide the personnel and infrastructure needed to support customers throughout the product development lifecycle. The combined operation of the Chippenham and Cambridge facilities supports development and manufacturing programs involving small molecules, biologics, and generic products.

The expanded capabilities are particularly relevant to developers working on challenging therapeutic areas, including pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), as well as diseases outside the respiratory category that may benefit from inhaled administration.
