1nhaler Secures $3 Million for Cardboard Inhaler Development

Prototype of a cardboard inhaler device

1nhaler has raised approximately $3 million in follow-on financing to advance the development of its single-use cardboard dry powder inhaler (DPI), targeting its first regulatory approval in 2027. The funding, led by Archangels with support from Scottish Enterprise and BBB Investments, will facilitate late-stage development of 1nhaler Salbutamol, which combines the inhaler device with salbutamol, a common asthma treatment.

A priority for the company is transferring the manufacturing process to a contract manufacturing partner for clinical trial material production. Additionally, a small clinical study is planned to generate data for regulatory submission, aimed for late 2027. The financing will also support a manufacturing engineering study with Harro Höfliger to assess requirements for scaling up production.

1nhaler’s device aims to overcome limitations of traditional inhalers by being primarily cardboard-based, compact, and designed for cost-effective production. The platform could potentially deliver other dry powder medicines, expanding its applications beyond respiratory treatments. The investment reflects growing interest in pulmonary drug delivery, which offers a needle-free method for administering medications directly to the lungs.
