Novartis drug pelacarsen showed no effect on heart attack and stroke rates despite lowering lp(a) levels. This was highlighted in a study presented at the American Heart Association’s annual meeting. Similarly, a study from Novo Nordisk evaluating an anti-inflammatory targeting IL-6 also demonstrated no benefit.
These findings raise questions about the reliability of new technologies in drug development. Both companies may need to reassess their strategies in addressing cardiovascular risks.
