Recursion expects to launch its first registrational trial in the second half of 2027 for its lead candidate REC-4881, following positive mid-stage clinical data for the oral therapy targeting familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP). The Phase Ib/II TUPELO trial data indicated that most patients treated with REC-4881 experienced reductions in both the number of larger, higher-risk polyps and overall lower GI polyp burden. The data was presented at the CGA-IGC Annual Meeting in Denver.
Recursion’s anticipated timeline for the registrational trial will depend on discussions with the FDA, with further details expected later this year. The company has licensed REC-4881 from Takeda Pharmaceutical, which initially developed the drug as TAK-733. The need for effective treatments in FAP is significant, as current standard care involves lifelong surveillance and surgical interventions.
The positive results may position REC-4881 as a potential breakthrough in the management of FAP, a condition with no approved pharmacologic therapies. This could impact manufacturers and suppliers involved in the development and distribution of treatments for rare genetic disorders.
