CCRM Ireland Would Be Established to Hasten Translation of Advanced Therapies Into Patient Treatments

Rinn Advanced Therapies, Ireland’s national research center for personalized immune cell therapies, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with CCRM, a leader in cell and gene therapy development and commercialization. This strategic collaboration aims to explore the establishment of a CCRM-affiliated advanced therapies hub in Ireland, known as CCRM Ireland.

The initiative seeks to position Ireland as a pivotal location within CCRM’s global network of advanced therapies hubs, which includes counterparts in Canada, Australia, and Sweden. This move is expected to enhance Ireland’s capabilities in next-generation biomedicine, thereby fostering a robust ecosystem for the development of advanced therapies.

“Collaborating with CCRM to establish CCRM Ireland is attractive due to our shared commitment to improving patient outcomes,” stated Sakis Mantalaris, PhD, director of Rinn Advanced Therapies. The partnership aims to leverage Ireland’s integrated ecosystem—including academia, healthcare, and biomanufacturing—to align with CCRM’s model for accelerating advanced therapy development. This collaboration could significantly impact the design, clinical translation, and delivery of personalized immune cell therapies, while also capitalizing on Ireland’s biopharmaceutical manufacturing expertise.

CCRM Ireland is poised to support investment and commercialization pathways, following the successful model established by CCRM Canada. Michael May, president and CEO of CCRM, emphasized the importance of collaboration in advancing cell and gene therapies, stating that no single entity can build this industry alone. By creating global hubs, CCRM aims to connect research, manufacturing, and capital to expedite the commercialization of advanced therapies, ultimately bringing transformative treatments to patients more swiftly.

Rinn Advanced Therapies will leverage its extensive network of universities, hospitals, and national organizations to develop and deliver effective, accessible, and affordable personalized immune cell therapies. CCRM will provide its expertise in establishing and operating advanced therapies hubs, utilizing its proven frameworks in governance, GMP manufacturing, quality systems, and commercialization.
