Cellares, an integrated development and manufacturing organization (IDMO), has formed a partnership with GenomeFrontier Therapeutics, a Taiwanese company focused on virus-free CAR T therapies, to enhance the automated manufacturing of GF-CART01, GenomeFrontier’s investigational CAR T-cell therapy, utilizing Cellares’ Cell Shuttle platform.
This collaboration aims to translate GenomeFrontier’s manufacturing processes to the Cell Shuttle, particularly focusing on the transfection unit operation with Cellares’ integrated electroporator. This marks Cellares’ inaugural development collaboration in Asia, strategically supporting GenomeFrontier’s clinical initiatives in the U.S. as it advances GF-CART01.
GF-CART01 is being developed for various B-cell malignancies, and GenomeFrontier has reported promising clinical data from Taiwan, with ongoing recruitment for a Phase I clinical trial in the U.S. According to Sareina Wu, PhD, CEO of GenomeFrontier, this partnership is crucial for ensuring that their manufacturing strategy can effectively support both clinical development and future scalability.
Fabian Gerlinghaus, co-founder and CEO of Cellares, highlighted the increasing complexity of next-generation cell therapy manufacturing, noting that the Cell Shuttle is designed to automate intricate processes while providing the scalability and reliability necessary for advancing therapies through clinical stages. The partnership addresses the challenges of labor-intensive and variable autologous CAR T manufacturing, which impacts clinical development, manufacturing reliability, costs, and patient access.
